The children’s stage show Nezha is jointly created by QujiangPolar OceanPark and Xi’an Children’s Art Theatre. It is based on the classic Chinese mythology Nezha Conquering the Sea. Nezha, a brave and reckless boy, bids farewell to his master Taiyi and visits his parents at Chentang Pass, where he is in time for the annual dragon sacrifice, he was frustrated with the Dragon Prince’s unearned gains, defies his father’s advice and injures the Prince, causing the Dragon King to flood Chentang Pass. To save the people of Chentang Pass, Nezha willingly gives his life to be buried in the sea. Nezhais later reborn in the form of a lotus flower. After his ordeal, Nezha learns that true bravery is not about fighting but about standing up for what is right. Under his master’s guidance, Nezha learns to be brave and defeats the Dragon King.

Compared to the familiar story of Nezha, the play is based on a reasonable adaptation of the original, with a plot that diminishes the vengeful emotions and violent scenes and make the stage show suitable for modern children. The show also adopts exaggerated humor to present an ancient story that is in line with modern stage aesthetics. At the same time, in order to express the splendid theatrical scenes of the mythical story, the creative team has made great efforts in stage presentation, using many high-tech stage devices and diverse forms of stage expression, integrating acrobatics, martial arts, wire-flying, puppets, music, dance, stunts, video and other means for stage presentation services to present the old story with new ideas.
